The “no food” diet

digiuno

Here’s some thoughts about dieting and weight loss. Well, first of all, did ever occur to you that most of the times we think about loosing weight we regain it back in no time? Dieting is indeed something different from any “weight loss” (read “Just Listen To Your Body and Eat: Stop Trying to Control Your Weight” by Lise Bourdeau)

Are you tired of trying diets of every kind and shape and never been able to succeed? I bet you have tried them all…from the Dunkan diet to muffins, dancing, or other weird plans. Successful weight loss requires a permanent lifestyle change including physical activity. Not only, as you noticed even the most diligent person attempting a diet, often fails ( a 55 year study in Britain states that failure rate is above 95%, have a look here for a reference).

As Darwin theory discovered in early 1860’s, every human being recognizes sugar food as “good food” or non toxic food for one self’s life. This is why most parents are struggling to encourage their babies to like savory foods (the US National Center for Health Statistics reports a grand total of 13 times to be able to introduce one more savory food on any kid’s diet compared to just one try, for sweet food – I believe you already knew that one though, when you were trying with a new salad or courgette with your baby too, isn’t it ?). Well, our vibrant culture system, the industrial revolution and the new food chain business did exploit this “good sweet vs. bad savory ” food embedded in everybody’s brain, by poisoning edible and healthy food with “sugars” and additives (almost anything we could find today on the market). In the meantime, McDonald’s promoting new employment throughout Europe and it’s already the biggest employers in the Us.

How could we possibly modify our “fast-food/fat/sweet/meaty/fried meal” concept then ? How can we respond to those overwhelming commercials targeting our emotions for sweet food comfort ? Do we need to reject it all ?

You probably thinking if you are really committed and stick to the diet plan, you will definitely succeed. However, as Anthony Robbins says in his book “Awaken the Giant Within“, if we all think in a matter of pain and pleasure, then is what you link pain to and what you link pleasure to, which shapes your destiny.

That is why I have decided to take you through this brief exploration of a “no food at all” dieting system. No, I don’t want to starve anyone. This is NOT something you want to do for a prolonged period of time, but once a month for 2 or 3 days in a row, will even increase the number of neurons in your brain! There’s so much literature about this argument over the web; most of all, you can find some good arguments talking about the improvements in fighting against major autoimmune illnesses. Nevertheless this practice is often used for religious purposes, other than improving one’s mental and physical health.

Yes, 3 full days of no food to experiment once for all what it means not to eat stuff every day, and not thinking about what do I have to cook or boil next.

I would say the least it takes some lungs not to eat for longer than 3 days, and I would rather avoid not to eat in case you have any heart conditions, kidneys, pancreas, pregnancy, or any other health condition. Of course, the aim of this article is just being informative. You are welcomed to elaborate and share thoughts on this argument, making your choices under your own responsibility.

What do you do, what can you eat or drink then, during your “no food” activity ?

Seems obvious, but drinking lots of water is always a good start. How much ? At least 3-4 liters per day for an adult (including hot herbal tea, please choose them carefully with some experts in this field). As a suggestion, do not practice any sport and never stress your intestine during this time.

You can sure add the 8 essential amino-acids (wikipedia is your source to find out more on this argument), depending on energy levels you can measure before entering this dieting system. You can’t fail, it’s that simple.

If you would opt for the same eating habits you had before (over eating, eating the wrong food, adding simple sugars) , the BIG danger would be gaining back the weight you lost so far, with the risk of exposing your immune system to a terrible shock.

In this case, not taking any food and coming back 3 days later with a few donuts and a pizza/cola for lunch and dinner will be only waste of time and effort, not even talking about the risk for heart and immune system. Before attempting any diet make sure you can consult a doctor if you ever need one, otherwise, happy “3 days of no food” to you all!
